CNC Router removes material using a spinning cutting bit.

Woodworking projects: furniture parts, signs and plaques 

3d cariving: relief carving, molds, decorative panels

Plastic machining: acrylic, HDPE,PVC parts

Aluminum (light-duty): brackets, plates, enclosures

Joinery: dovetails, Mortise and tenon, pocket cuts

Large parts: anything too thick for a laser

Strengths:

Cuts thick materials

Can do 3D shapes and contours

Strong, structural

Limitations:

Not as fine/detail-oriented as a laser

Leaves tool marks (may need sanding) 

Laser Cutter/Engraver uses a focused beam of light.

Typical uses:

Engraving: logos, photos, text on wood, glass, leather, anodized metal

Precision cutting: thin wood acrylic, paper, fabric

Signs and branding: detailed lettering and graphics

Custom items: coasters, ornamental, plaques

Strengths:

Extremely fine detail

Clean edges (no sanding usually)

Very fast for thin materials

Limitations:

Limited thickness (usually under~ 1/4 - 1/2" 

Can't do true 3D carving
